Pilgrimage to Kimi no Na wa

Pilgrimage to Kimi no Na wa (Your Name) scenes and locations, although currently (as of our last Japan trip in Nov 2019) we only covered half of Hida-Furukawa locations.

One of the most iconic scene in the movie, overhead view of the Limited Express Wide View Hida arriving at Hida-Furukawa Station.

This scene in movie vs real life is so accurate in overall structure, it’s almost same for same in my opinion to a certain extent.

Sadly for us, on the day we visiting there is still reduced train frequency (due to Typhoon Hagibis), so we do not get to see the Limited Express Wide View Hida in the afternoon (if I recall we are waiting for the 3+pm one), and the next one will be 6-7pm which is too late for us to stay till to catch the exact train coming in, even if we do the lighting condition is so different already (nightfall).

So we have to be contented with the shot of the local train arriving into the station (which is on the opposite track), and we actually arrived into Hida-Furukawa Station on a Limited Express Wide View Hida. Just that obviously we are unable to rush out and ran to the overhead platform to take the shot.

On the silver lining, we are happy we managed to even go there (due to Japan just recovering from the Typhoon Hagibis and many reduced train frequency) to sightsee and reenact a few scenes within such a short time in Hida-Furukawa (approx 3 hours in total), and it is probably also a sign for us to come back to Hida-Furukawa for a longer time in future!

Scene of Miki and Tsukasa excited with the mascot in the station, and Taki in the foreground.

Other than the obvious change of mascot to a standee, it was placed to the left of the scene. Simple guess so that people won’t crowd the manned ticketing counter when taking photos of/with the standee.

By the way, we also met a Taiwanese acquaintance, who is also a fan of the movie who is on a day trip pilgrimage too, he is taking the photo when we are also taking the photo here. His perspective is he is Taki (selfie) and us in the background.
If you are reading this, do show us the photo you took too!

Scene of Taki asking a taxi driver for location (from his drawn art) at the taxi rank outside of Hida-Furukawa Station, with Miki and Tsukasa observing in the background.

We have no Taki, so just have to make do the scene without him.

What I’m pleasantly surprised that small details of the movie is also really accurate:

  1. If you observe the taxi’s brand and logo it is the same in reality and movie

  2. Small signboard showing the direction to Hida City Tourist Information

Scene of Miki and Tsukasa eating Gohei Mochi

Apparently the same spot/restaurant that is based on for the movie, place to eat outside is spot on accurate too if you can angle the shot properly.

Scene of Hida-Furukawa City Library

I did not take a close up shot as per the same in the movie scene, but it should be the right part of the photo I took.

Overall structure is same, but if you count the details, the number of windows are different and there’s no “Hida-Furukawa City Library” sign on the library building itself.
